Integration testing & monitoring

See errors before customers report them.

One system reports green, but the customer order gets stuck. We make complete processes testable and errors traceable across system boundaries. Tests, metrics and operating instructions are aligned with your most important business cases.

Your brief for OTOKO®

What we take care of for you.

Schemas and contract tests check the agreement between sender and receiver. End-to-end tests additionally cover selected complete cases; load tests look at behavior under an agreed profile. We also test faulty input, delay and retries. Dependent systems can be simulated for certain tests, with the limits of the simulation documented. The most important acceptance tests use a suitable integrated environment and documented test data.

The possible scope of services

  • Contract tests with Pact and schema checks against OpenAPI and AsyncAPI in the delivery pipeline
  • End-to-end and load tests with Playwright and k6 on production-like test data
  • Instrumentation with OpenTelemetry for traces, metrics and logs
  • Dashboards and alerting in Grafana with indicators for throughput, error rate and latency
  • Operations runbooks with escalation, restart and reconciliation after incidents

We define the specific scope, your involvement and the acceptance criteria before the start.

Technology explained clearly

How we carry out the task.

01

Connect technical signals with the case

Traces can show the path of a request across services, metrics can show changes in operation and logs can show individual events. We plan suitable correlation identifiers and limit sensitive content. A dashboard answers concrete questions: where is the order waiting, which counterpart is responding slowly and which messages need to be clarified? Sampling and retention are chosen so that diagnostic value, data protection and cost fit together. Not every debug output belongs permanently in production.

02

Alerts must lead to an action

An alert receives a severity level, an owner and an initial diagnostic path. Business control checks complement technical measurements when a case runs across several systems. Acceptance testing includes a deliberately triggered test disruption and the agreed restart. You receive the test suite, dashboards and runbooks; the availability and response times of the operations team are defined separately.

A verifiable result

What you keep working with.

  1. Test suite with contract, end-to-end and load tests
  2. Observability platform with dashboards and alerts
  3. Operations runbooks with indicators per interface

The handover brings together implementation and documentation. Together, we review the agreed cases and record any remaining tasks.

Your project in detail

Understand errors across system boundaries.

We test integrated business processes and create the technical view your team needs to narrow down incidents. Individual green system indicators are not enough when an order gets stuck between two systems.

Build tests around business handoffs

We combine contract tests for interfaces with selected end-to-end process checks. Contract tests catch incompatible changes early; end-to-end tests verify whether a business transaction actually reaches the expected result across the systems involved. Not every variant needs to run as a slow full-system test.

Test data has known starting states and expected results. Besides successful cases, we test missing permissions, timeouts and incomplete responses. For external services, we deliberately distinguish simulation from real integration, so that a successful simulation is not mistaken for a confirmed production connection.

Combine logs, metrics and traces into one diagnosis

Metrics show frequency and scale, logs provide event detail and traces make a request’s path visible. We link this information using suitable identifiers and take care not to log unnecessary confidential content. Retention is limited according to diagnostic needs and protection needs.

Alerts are based on the impact on users and processes. A single technical error does not always need to trigger an emergency response; a growing backlog, on the other hand, can be relevant at an early stage. For important alerts, we define responsibility, initial verification steps and the path to business-level resolution.

Illustrative project scenario

How the service helps in everyday use.

Example: Customers occasionally do not see a current order status. A trace shows whether the portal, the integration service or the ERP is causing the bottleneck. Additional process checks detect whether the status is only delayed or permanently lost. The operations team gets a concrete path for diagnosis.

This example explains a possible process and is not a customer reference.

Before the first step

Your questions about Integration testing & monitoring.

Does observability replace business monitoring?

No. Technical signals explain system behavior. Functional checks must additionally recognize whether the intended case was actually completed.

Does all payload data need to be logged?

No. Identifiers, status and targeted technical information are usually more suitable. Sensitive data is minimized and access to diagnostic information is restricted.
