Clearly define key figure, period and comparison

Revenue can mean incoming orders, the invoiced amount or incoming payments. We record the definition, reference period, currency and exceptions before any visualizations are built. These rules are captured in a reusable business data model, so that different reports do not calculate the same key figure differently.

Together with the future users, we determine the level of detail needed: management, team leads and case workers need different views. Filters, comparison periods and drill-down options are aligned with their tasks. The user interface shows which data snapshot the figures are based on and which limitations apply to their interpretation.

Deploy reports to production and control changes

We check permissions down to the required data level, for example by location or organizational unit. An approved report must not unintentionally show more information through an export or an additional view. For personal data, the required scope is agreed with the responsible owners.

Operation includes updates, error handling and maintenance of the key figure model. Changes are checked with comparison calculations and approved from a business perspective. We also look at load times and usage: a report with many unused charts is not automatically better. What matters is a clear overview and targeted paths to the details.
