IT System Engineer (all genders)

You integrate the systems on which customers build their daily operations. This includes servers, virtualisation, end devices and connections to cloud services. You work from the actual dependencies and support a solution from assessment through to operational handover.

Servers and clients depend on directory services, DNS, certificates and applications. You analyse these connections before a replacement or migration. Virtualisation, patching and backup are aligned with customer operations. A restore verifies not only the machine but also the application, data and access. The handover covers configurations, responsibilities and steps for common incidents.

• Assess existing system landscapes and implement server, virtualisation or client solutions that fit the requirements.
• Integrate identity services, access, backup and monitoring into the overall design.
• Carry out migrations and rollouts with tests, maintenance windows and rollback plans.
• Create operational documentation, test recovery and systematically handle technical incidents.
• Check directory, DNS and certificate dependencies before migrations and safeguard transitions.
• Test backup and restore using realistic system or application failures.

What matters is demonstrable experience that is relevant to the role. It may come from appropriate vocational training, a degree, professional practice or a well-founded career change. We will align the specific level of responsibility with your knowledge and experience.

• Practical administration experience with Windows, Linux or a comparable enterprise environment.
• Understanding of virtualisation, networking, identity and backup.
• Careful documentation and structured troubleshooting.

This knowledge is helpful, but you do not need to have all of it at once. In your application, describe where you have already gained practical experience and which areas you would like to explore in greater depth.

• Experience with Microsoft environments, automation or hybrid infrastructure.
• Knowledge of endpoint management, container operations or storage systems.

You hand over systems whose status, dependencies and recovery paths are documented clearly. Successful integration is reflected in stable customer operations and traceable changes.

This role can be based in Cologne or performed remotely. We will agree the specific form of collaboration, project requirements and any necessary customer appointments before you start.

This role is offered as permanent employment on a full-time or part-time basis. We will agree the responsibilities, working hours, start date and compensation to suit the role and your level of experience.
