Data Engineer (all genders)

You create the data foundation on which business applications, analytics and AI can operate reliably. Different source systems bring their own formats, permissions and error patterns. You develop clear data flows in which origin, quality and responsibilities remain transparent.

An API delivers changes late, an import contains faulty records and another run repeats data that has already been ingested. You define business keys, duplicate rules and error handling. Time zones, data deletion and schema changes are explicitly considered. Consumers receive transparent information about origin, quality and currency. When a run fails, it must be clear what may be processed again.

• Ingest data from APIs, databases and files and develop robust batch or event-based pipelines.
• Define data models, transformations and quality checks together with business stakeholders.
• Ensure repeatability, incremental processing and restart after errors; account for duplicates and late-arriving data.
• Design access concepts, monitoring and documentation so that data flows remain verifiable in operation.
• Implement incremental processing and restarts without duplicating business transactions.
• Agree data contracts and quality rules for mandatory fields, time references and business keys.

What matters is demonstrable experience that is relevant to the role. It may come from appropriate vocational training, a degree, professional practice or a well-founded career change. We will align the specific level of responsibility with your knowledge and experience.

• Strong SQL skills and experience with Python or a comparable language for data processing.
• Understanding of data modelling, interfaces and automated processing.
• Ability to analyse data errors systematically and align business definitions with technical models.

This knowledge is helpful, but you do not need to have all of it at once. In your application, describe where you have already gained practical experience and which areas you would like to explore in greater depth.

• Experience with streaming, data warehouses or lakehouse architectures.
• Knowledge of orchestration, data catalogues or data lineage.

Success means fewer unnoticed data errors and a reliable foundation for further applications. You deliver not only a pipeline but also checks, responsibilities and a transparent path to troubleshooting.

This role can be based in Cologne or performed remotely. We will agree the specific form of collaboration, project requirements and any necessary customer appointments before you start.

This role is offered as permanent employment on a full-time or part-time basis. We will agree the responsibilities, working hours, start date and compensation to suit the role and your level of experience.
